Medici

“The Cavalcanti family was probably born in Fiesole, were lords of the Stinche Castle in Val di Greve and Montecalvi in Val di Pesa, Luco and Ostina in Val d'Arno Superiore; the origin of their wealth, however, almost certainly derived from the trading activity.
The family became related by marriage to all the most important families of Florence, including the Ghibelline families, like Lamberti and Amidei, in the vain attempt to bring peace back to the city.”
