Medici

“The Medici family was the most important of the Florentine families. Their rise began during the thirteenth century, first economically with trading activities and then by carrying out important roles within the public municipality. During the fourteenth century, they became increasingly powerful and in the fifteenth century some members of the family became the richest bankers in Italy.
In 1560, one of the descendants of the family of Medici, Cosimo I, commissioned the construction of one of the most renowned museums of the world: the Uffizi Gallery.”
